Who is? Project - A flag, traveling the world
This exhibition went up during lockdown in New Zealand. After receiving the works from Who is? Project, we decided to install the work regardless, as we believe awareness of the issues the Who is? Project highlights is more important now than ever. The borders created by our ‘lockdown level’ restrictions mean the work feels especially poignant while viewed behind barriers.
Who is? Project is an on going art project which aims to tackle issues around immigration systems and globalisation. Symbolised by a white flag embellished with the words “Who are they? Who are we?”, this project is a comment on the many invisible borders created through history. Right now we find the message especially important. We know everyone is scared, but we truly believe that we, as a country and a species, will overcome this very real existential threat - shout out to everyone for doing the best they can. But… while we all focus our attention to the news, and our social media, we cannot forget about the other important global issues that are seeing no light. Climate change is real, it hasn’t gone away, and it’s still an existential threat. We also still have many refugees, fighting for their lives and for their land, who now are also fighting CV19. We need to be especially conscious of division within our society and resist that division.
We encourage you to visit the website (http://whoisproject.co.uk/) and read more about it, or you can come down to ADJØ in person, have a view through the window and purchase a poster. All profits from the poster go towards the continuation of Who is? Project.
Special thanks to The Online Printer https://www.theonlineprinter.co.nz/, for sponsoring the posters for the exhibition together with Deveron Projects, and supporting the project’s future travel.
